Some people think that you should use spruce plywood only for the floors of your new home.  They think you're a cheap builder if you use anything else.  Well, there is a better product.  It's the premium OSB.  Oriented Strand Board.  It's an engineered product.

Yes it looks like a bunch of parts glued together, and it is.  However, it is much more water resistant than spruce ply and it doesn't require old forest growth to produce.  Obviously, new houses can get soaked during construction.  The water flows right off this product and is guaranteed not to require sanding for 60 days of exposure. 

We will be using this product in all our new homes mainly because it saves trees!  I would use it in my own home.
